New name for Fucking - The 100-inhabitant municipality of Fucking in Austria has become a tourist attraction because of its name. Now it's enough for the residents: At the turn of the year they rename their place. Does it help? 

The residents of the Austrian village of Fucking have had enough of the eternal jokes: At a municipal council meeting they decided that their 100-inhabitant village should be renamed Fugging at the turn of the year. This was confirmed by the mayor of Tarsdorf, to which fucking belongs.

Especially on Internet platforms, people had made fun of the village name Fucking, which is an obscene term in English.

The place is located in the Braunau am Inn district in Upper Austria, about ten kilometers from the Bavarian border. Streams of tourists caused anger among residents
English-speaking tourists in particular had traveled to the village in the past to have themselves photographed at the Fucking sign. They sometimes assumed lascivious poses before they published the pictures on Internet platforms. 

So far, there had been no clear majority in the local council for the name change. Above all, the villagers, who lived near the place-name sign, had always supported the change.
